Optical Illusion Trick

This fun and easy magic trick uses materials you may already have around your home.
Remember, it's always a good idea to practice at home first!

Suggested Materials:

* 1 x piece of standard office paper
* Felt-tip pen
* Ruler

Suggested Instructions:

Optical Illusion

Step 1: At home, use your ruler and felt-tip pen to draw 2 straight 10cm lines on your piece of paper. Your lines should be about 3 cm apart and one line should be directly below the other.

Optical Illusion

Step 2: Hold your lines up to your "audience" to show that your lines are exactly the same length.

Optical Illusion

Step 3: On each end of your top line, draw a basic V-shaped arrow head.

Optical Illusion

Step 4: On each end of your bottom line, draw a V-shaped arrow head in reverse.

Optical Illusion

Step 5: Show your lines to your "audience" again. Do they still look like they are the same length or does your bottom line now magically look longer than your top line?

Optical Illusion

Step 6: Choose a volunteer from your "audience" to measure your lines to prove that both lines are still exactly the same length. What an amazing optical illusion!

Optical Illusion

Step 7: At school, repeat Step 1 to Step 6.
