Secret Code Trick

This magic trick is fun and interesting and uses minimal materials.
Remember, it's always a good idea to practice at home first!

Suggested Materials:

* 7 x small objects of any colour except blue eg. small toy, crayon, cup, coin, spoon
* 1 x small blue object
* 1 x black cloth (or similar)
* 1 x magician's assistant (ie. a friend in your class)

Suggested Instructions:

Step 1: At school, ask your assistant to join you at the front of the class. Arrange your 8 different objects on your cloth on a table.

Step 2: Choose one volunteer from the class to come forward. Tell your volunteer that you are going to turn your back and that when you do, you would like them to silently choose one of the objects on the table by pointing to it. The whole class, including your assistant, should clearly see which item your volunteer
has selected.

Step 3: Now turn back around. Ask your assistant to slowly point to each of the objects on the table one-by-one. (The key to this trick is that the item pointed to immediately after the blue item is the item selected by the volunteer).

Step 4: Watch as your assistant silently points to the items in random order. Pay careful attention to see when your assistant points to the blue item. The next item your assistant points to is the item selected by your volunteer.

Step 5: Amaze your classmates by holding up the item chosen by your volunteer. Incredible!

Step 6: Practice this trick at home before trying it at school. Be sure to practice with your magician's assistant so they know what to do and when to do it. Be sure to keep it a secret!

Note: If your volunteer chooses the blue item, your assistant should point to the blue item last.
