Cutting the Cake |
This quick and easy science "trick" is fun and interesting and uses materials you may already have around your home. |
Suggested Materials: |
* 1 x large plain cupcake or muffin (or similar) |
Suggested Instructions: |
Step 1: At home, place your cupcake on your plate. |

Step 2: Carefully cut your cupcake from top to bottom to divide it into 2 halves. |

Step 3: Then cut your cupcake from left to right to divide it into |
|
Step 4: Show your "audience" that you have 4 pieces of cake. |
|
Step 5: Ask your "audience" whether they think you can turn your 4 pieces of cake into 8 pieces of cake by making only one more cut to the cake. Are they bamboozled? |

Step 6: Now carefully cut your cake horizontally through its middle to create 2 layers of 4 quarters, one on top of the other. You have cut your cake into 8 pieces by making only one extra cut! |

Step 7: Practice this trick a few times at home before trying it at school, if necessary. |

Step 8: At school, repeat Step 1 to Step 6. |
